Here is a rough sketch of Illuminated Ink's next coloring contest. It combines Eastern iconography with the Polish/Ukranian folkart of Pysanki (dying Easter eggs.) I am fascinated with the symbolic nature of religious art and try to carry that through in a manner presentable and interesting to children.

Kevin, I think the styles work great together. I look forward to seeing the final illustration.
Next time I visit will be Easter... giving up non-work related web browsing for lent!...
Nicely executed and beautiful design.
Hi Kevin,
One comment. In traditional iconography this icon is called "The Descent into Hades" and is meant to always show Christ lifting the souls of Adam AND Eve into heaven from their exile of death. Only trouble is both of your souls are bearded. Trust me, the canons of iconography aren't meant to be tinkered with, for the main purpose is to visually portray the Gospels faithfully. It may have been an oversight, but if you could sort of erase poor old Eve's beard your icon would increase in faithfulness and biblical accuracy.
Otherwise I love the pysanky borders and the linear style.
i really love your work
take care,
