Hello fellow illustrators! I used to post on here a bit years ago, but sadly haven't been doing much drawing lately. I've decided it was time to try and change that, so getting back into sketching some rough pieces, and working out a style for some upcoming projects I hope to start. Thanks for all of your inspiration, there are so many great pieces of work published here to this blog, and I'm motivated by your faith! Cheers for now!

Mary did you know,

Beautiful song, some of the lyrics are a bit problematic, but it inspired this piece nevertheless.
"Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm the storm with his hand?"

The Cross of Victory

An experiment with media that's new to me, Posca paint pens, water based paint that comes in marker-like "pens." The palette of colors is limited and the colors are bright, but it gives an interesting, graphic, almost "pop" feel to the art. The cross measures 40" X 29"

Jesus is shown alive and crowned as a king, His arms open in welcome, offering this victory to all. On the left, the figure of life gestures towards Him while on the right the figure of death with a broken staff (in this case a nod to the western symbol of a scythe) is turned away. At the foot of the cross is the devil, broken and defeated.

The inscription is from Theodore of Studios,

"This is the tree on which Christ, like a king on a chariot, destroyed the devil, the lord of death, and freed the human race from tyranny."

Catholic Icons

Hi, everyone! I am new at the Catholic Illustrators Guild and happy to be here. I am an iconography apprentice learning to write Catholic icons in the Russian-Byzantine tradition. The recessed and panel icons I have completed so far can be seen at my site Created Beauty. Here are two of the icons I recently finished:

 

The icons are all written using natural pigments with water-based egg tempera on wood covered with linen and traditional gesso, together with 23.5 kt gold leaf and/or silver leaf burnished by hand. Epiphany coloring page, colored

Merry Christmas as we come to the end of this year! This year, for me, has been dominated by the project of the Liturgical Calendar Coloring Book, drawing pages for every single saint's day. Now it's complete I've started coloring some of the pages. I colored this one with acrylic wash, ink, and the classic coloring book medium, Crayola crayons; and used the picture for my Christmas cards this year.

Sacred Heart/Immacualte Heart

I actually posted these on my blog on the appropriate days, but I think you are right J.R. I was remiss not to post them here. I think most Smallpaxers have seen them from previous posts. At any rate these are more contemporary takes on traditional imagery.

East meets West in the Italian Renaissance

There is a great article on the Blog "Suffering with Joy" about this painting, "Madonna with Child Clothed with Sunlight." Ms. Schoeneberger talks about not oly the symbolism in this painting but combination of eastern and western stles that produced this stunning piece.
