Hi, everyone! I am new at the Catholic Illustrators Guild and happy to be here. I am an iconography apprentice learning to write Catholic icons in the Russian-Byzantine tradition. The recessed and panel icons I have completed so far can be seen at my site Created Beauty. Here are two of the icons I recently finished:
The icons are all written using natural pigments with water-based egg tempera on wood covered with linen and traditional gesso, together with 23.5 kt gold leaf and/or silver leaf burnished by hand. Check out my site and please do not hesitate to get in touch at createdbeautyicons@gmail.com should you have any questions.
Thanks, enjoy!
Marcelle

East meets West in the Italian Renaissance
There is a great article on the Blog "Suffering with Joy" about this painting, "Madonna with Child Clothed with Sunlight." Ms. Schoeneberger talks about not oly the symbolism in this painting but combination of eastern and western stles that produced this stunning piece.

Holy Russia

A new exhibit at the Louvre titled "Holy Russia" opens tomorrow, featuring some stunning icons. From the linked article:
In an exhibit unlike any ever mounted and tinged with diplomatic ambitions, the Louvre has pulled together artworks that have never left Russia and from around Europe, from carved cathedral doors to gold-woven robes and precious iconostasis panels. "Holy Russia" opens to the public Friday. The Louvre has created a website (in French) that features icons and artifacts from the exhibit. The flash-based interface allows you to zoom in on these beautiful works of art and prayer.
The exhibit includes icons by Andrei Rublev, among others.
