Saint Ignatius of Loyola

Here is my submission for the July Art Jam. I painted the image in Photoshop using my Intuos 4 tablet, but hopefully it looks like oils.

Ignatius!

This is the first artwork I've done in six months that didn't make me sick when I looked at it. I did it last night when I couldn't sleep. It's 100% Adobe Illustrator and I modeled St. Ignatius from a fellow Jesuit named Joe Laramie SJ. I was going for a contemplative and meditative expression, but I didn't want to close his eyes (I think I remember Chesterton explaining why Catholic saints are always depicted with opened eyes - anyone know where?). Hopefully the swirley doo-dads and stars/moon help get the mystical feel across without looking too fruity.

Monthly Art Jam: Saint Ignatius

Hello everyone! We've decided to start having "Quarterly Editors" here at SmallPax, where every three months a new person is roped into becoming an amateur editor. I hope to bring some interesting content here until the end of September.

Way back when I used to play music regularly, we used to have weekly jam sessions--a way to have a no-pressure, fun impromptu concert.

Here's the first monthly art jam session. The topic: St. Ignatius of Loyola. Given his varied life, from soldier to founder of one of the greatest religious orders of all time, he should give some inspiration. His feast is on the 31st of this month, so try to have your sketch or painting or what-have-you ready to show by then!
