Illuminated mini missal

Hi all,

I’m new to the Guild. My 9-5 is as a medical illustrator, but my real passion is book illumination.

Below are sample pages of a recent project – a miniature version of the High Mass missal used at the Anglo-Catholic church where I’m an acolyte/thurifer/crucifer. The book (measuring 4cm x 5cm) was done on calfskin vellum in watercolor and ink, with raised gold and silver leaf. The binding is of black leather, with a citrine cabuchon set onto the Cross on the cover.

I hope to do a Stations of the Cross or a Penitential Psalms illuminated book next.

This is beautiful. I love the binding. If you happen to have documented your process online anywhere I would love to see it.

Ahhhh! I want one! I'm a Medievalist and always look for Bibles that are illuminated (not hand-done, but something in that "style") and they are incredibly hard to find (and pricey!)

What a lovely and satisfying project. I love book illumination also, as well as bookbinding. I am so glad to see that you have taken the time and care to do this small book and make it beautiful.
