Gathering Sticks

Update: I made some changes to his left arm and chest. Above is the modified image. May still need to play with it.

This is a pencil study that I finished late last night of the Child Jesus. The full image is to include Mary as well, but I haven't worked out the entire arrangement yet. My original idea was to have her knitting/sewing. Unfortunately in the rough sketches, she seems to be too removed from what Jesus is doing.

This is beautiful and gentle. I wonder about the left arm-it seems to originate a bit close to the face.

Thanks Sophie! I think there needs to be more fabric visible on His chest in front of the arm. and the sleeve is turned too much toward the viewer. He's supposed to be leaning back with His head forward. Good spotting that! I'll play with it

Looks better with the change. I too look forward to the final.

You're so good with pencil.

What kind of pencil do you use for sketching?

Thanks everyone! I use either 2B or HB lead in a mechanical pencil for the sketching, and a 2H drawing pencil for the shading

Ah--I was wondering about the combination of the soft shading and the precision of the lines. Thanks!
