Weeping Maiden

I drew this practice picture a few years ago as prep for a pastel piece I did on dark paper (I don't think I have a copy of the final). I have a special liking for line art and so even though this was not a finished peice in itself I saved it and today when I was going through my files I found it and thought I would share it with you. There is a story behind this picture - but it is too long. In short I conceptualized this piece for a friend who was going through a difficult break-up with someone she had grown very close to. She had many late nights agonizing and praying for help in knowing how to handle the situation. I knew what she was going through since I was involved myself and I wanted to give her something to show how I felt and cared for her- this was it.

Beautiful. Good Anatomy, nice pose and I like how you've handled the hair. But I hope she doesn't fall asleep with her hair so close to that candle!

The hands are a bit mannish, but the composition is very dramatic!

Thanks for the comments and compliments! Meredith : Yes I agree about the hands - if I remember right I did fix that on the final - If I come across the final someday I will try to remember to post it =) And Ben : that is too funny about the candle! I actually never thought about it till you mentioned it - but it totally looks that way! (lol)
