Lizi,

I'd like to learn some background before I comment. Particularly, what was this for? I think the "feel" is nice, but I'm expecting you were not striving for a very realistic image, correct? It has a more mythical flair.

I do have some criticism to offer, but don't want to do so unless and until I know the intentions/venue for the piece (since, for example, an illustration that one might criticize as "too sketchy" might be perfect for an article/book that fits that style/mode).

So, could you comment a bit about this image?

This is just a drawing I have been working on and playing with for a while. It isn't for a book or anything just something I made up.
I think the curtain on the left is a bit sketchy but, I was worried about graying up the picture you know? I don't want it to be too dark. I really like how the hair turned out also the hand and face...I was aiming for her to look somewhat realistic but, not entirely because I usually like to do large eyes. What would make her look more realistic?
Thanks.

Lizi,

For greater realism, I'd mostly look to proportions. Even given that the eyes are unusually large, the nose seems a bit too long and chin too small. Take a look at an actual photograph of a woman's face side-by-side with your sketch and see if what I'm saying makes sense.

I'd also suggest...again, for realism, as this wouldn't apply if you wish to retain a stylized look...that you look at how light on hair actually falls...in your sketch, the locks are a bit too patterned...likewise with curtain behind. Light on actual hair tends to not reflect uniformly, but tapers off from highlight points. I'd also spend a bit more time on the hand; it looks a little small compared to the face, and the little finger in particular doesn't seem quite right compared to the others.

Now, all that said, there's a marvellous otherworldliness that you've captured, and almost all of the above could and should be dismissed if you're not trying for a very realistic image. In particular, there's almost an icon-like feel to what you've drawn, and perhaps that style is one you'd like to explore more...?

Hope some of this helps....

I like it. It looks like--maybe Isolde? Or Eowyn? It looks like someone, anyway, which is what I always look for in an illustration--character.
