This was my Christmas gift for my wife. It is our son doing what he does best, having fun with the simple things in life. In this case he was digging in some gravel when we were parked on a back-road in Minnesota while I painted. 11"x14", oil on panel.

I just wanted to say that I've been admiring the work you've been putting up here. Thanks for sharing!
This is lovely--your little boy's childlike focus on the little things on the ground. Your wife must have been delighted. Your little boy won't stay that size for long.
You're continuing to impress the heck out of me, Jason. How long does a painting like this take you? And what is the process like? Kids don't stay in one place for more than a moment...
Ben. I used a photo reference for this painting. We took the photo while on vacation and I thought it would make a nice painting. I did the painting in one day.
Ben. My process is direct oil painting. I just mix my colors the way I want them and stick them on the canvas. At times I have to make adjustments but I usually paint with just the 3 primaries and white so mixing into the already applied colors doesn't make mud.
