Study of a 17th Century Polish Cavalryman

I painted this one in oils on a wood panel made to look like a copper/gold plate.  The effect on the board was done in acrylic, and it makes a neat glow when it catches the light

Very elegant. Where did you get the 17th C. cavalryman to study? Will he become part of a bigger painting?

Beautiful! How did you do the golden look?

Thanks Vicki and Sophie! this was done from memory with a little reference to videos on Winged Hussars I found on the internet. I wish he was for a larger painting but sadly no... he's just going on the wall and in the portfolio.

Sophie - I had painted the background a tan/gray color and right before starting in oils I remembered some acrylic gold and copper paints I had in a box. I combined the two and scuffed it with a palette knife. Then I put a Liquitex Matte Medium on that for the oils to stick. That stuff is a real help!!

Very nice! I really like how you captured the texture of the metal.
