This drawing on calfskin of the Adoration of the Magi closely follows the composition of a panel painting by the
Master of the A.H. Monogram. Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar are depicted according to the descriptions of the Venerable Bede, representing the ages and races of mankind. The Circumcision of Christ is pictured in the background.
The border includes a world map, and two prefigurements from the
Speculum Humanae Salvationis: three heroes bringing water to David from the Well of Bethlehem and the Queen of Sheba before Solomon's Throne.
Open-edition signed giclée prints of this drawing are available for $80 each.
