This is gorgeous, solemn, majestic. How big is the original? Where will it go? What is your medium? Each of the evangelists seems to have wings; is that part of the tradition?
Hi Vicki, Thank you, This was a private commission, the final size was 22" X 28". Yes the symbols of the four evangelists are frequently depicted with wings, associating them with the four living creatures from the Book of Revelation that draw the throne-chariot of God. In iconography wings are often used to indicate a spiritual nature.
I had seen this piece when it was first posted, but I ran into it again just now doing a Google image search for "Christ in Majesty" and it really does hold its own next to the manuscript illuminations and apse frescoes of old. Fantastic!
